After checking my for obstructions or dust I went through all kinds of troubleshooting to find there was I tiny piece of packing material exactly the length of the optical slit for the laser reader that would shift around, some times blocking the sensor. So it's worth double checking. XD (removed with a plastic flosser pick end)
