Raven Global Profile for Mac OS

Raven Global Profile for Mac OS

In the interests of growing the shared profile database here, I thought I'd share the profiles I have created thus far

As I am a Mac user, these profiles are specific to the mac, but on the plus side, they are taking full advantage of some of the mac's most powerful features

First, is the global profile which looks like this:

There are only 6 keys to keep in mind here:
  1. Rear / Front Edge are the Undo and Redo keys
  2. The Fingertips are the Copy/Cut and Paste keys
  3. the Middle Mouse Click (Scroll Wheel) allows you to scroll both vertically and horizontally by moving your mouse while holding the scroll wheel down
Finally, the Bottom Thumb Key is treated as a modifier that unlocks access to all the other mapped keys. See the bindings below

I ensured that the names of the commands are clear, so the above screenshot should give you a sense of what each button does, but here are some details not visible in the render above:
  1. the Bottom Thumb + Right Trigger Push (Space Switcher) works when you hold down this key combo, and move your mouse left/right to shift between your desktops.
    1. As a bonus, if you start dragging a window using the normal left-click drag before you execute this combo, you will move the window between spaces. Doing this normally with the keyboard is very awkward.
  2. the Bottom Thumb + Right Trigger Pull (Tab Switcher) also works with the left/right movement of your mouse
  3. the Bottom Thumb + Right Fingertip (Volume and Play/Pause) is actually a modifier key that causes these adjustments if you hold it down ...
    1. Scroll Wheel will adjust the system volume
    2. Left Mouse will play/pause music (usually youtube for me) even if I'm not on the same app
For this binding system to work across profiles, there are a few rules that I follow with the creation of other profiles:
  1. Copy/Paste and Undo/Redo are retained on the same keys as the global profile. Generally, there is no reason to touch those so long as the program supports these functions, so it's useful to have them bubble up to consistent keys on other profiles
  2. No other profile can override the global modifier hotkey unless it deliberately wants to disable those bindings
  3. The Top Thumb Button is always used as a profile-specific modifier key. This helps keep me in the mental state that the thumb is always a modifier, and the choice of key merely affects what is being modified
I am still working on bindings for some other profiles, and if there is enough interest, I will provide those.
