Task List Error occurring on system shutdown

Task List Error occurring on system shutdown

This error will occur if a Windows shutdown is triggered by an Admin level app, rather than directly by the user. For example if you are installing a new driver and it requests a shutdown that will trigger the error. Or one app that will trigger it every time you shutdown is Start10, the start menu replacement utility. Since if you shutdown via the start menu the shutdown command will be coming from Start10 every time.

The error itself shouldn't have any negative side effects, it just occurs because the Control Panel is attempting to identify the admin level app that triggered the shutdown by using Window's "Tasklist" function. But since Windows is shutting down Tasklist fails to run.

If you are seeing problems you think may be related to this error, please let us know. But you can also prevent the error from occurring by disabling the Control Panels ability to detect apps running as Admin. To do this just open the Control Panels options menu and disable the "Detect admin level apps" setting. Apply the change then exit and relaunch the Control Panel for it to take effect.

Just note that with this feature disabled the only other way to let the Control Panel detect Admin level apps for profile switching is to also run the X1 Control Panel as Admin.
